Herbal remedies, as controversial as they are, can potentially provide positive effects for women experiencing menopausal symptoms. Here are some common menopausal symptoms and the best form of herbal remedy associated with each:

o Hot Flashes – Hot flashes are one of the most common symptoms for women during menopause. Hot flashes can last up to 6 minutes and can potentially occur several times within one day.

Herbal Remedy – Black Cohosh (also known as squaw root, black snake root or rattle weed) has been studied and is proven as a reputable treatment for hot flashes.

o Insomnia – Many women experiencing menopausal symptoms also have difficulty sleeping. If you suffer from sleeplessness on a regular basis, you probably suffer from chronic insomnia.

Herbal Remedies – Kava (or Kawa) is used throughout the world as a remedy for anxiety and insomnia. Other remedies proven effective for treating insomnia and sleeplessness are Valerian root and HOPS.

o Depression and Mood Swings – Although most people joke about women becoming depressed and moody during menopause, these symptoms are very serious and if not treated properly can become dangerous and harmful.

Herbal Remedy – St. John’s Wart (also known as goat weed) has proven to be an affective antidepressant in reversing the feelings of depression which many menopausal women experience.

o Abnormal Hair Growth – Abnormal hair growth (also called hirsuitism) is perhaps one of the most embarrassing symptoms for women suffering from menopause. Abnormal hair growth can occur anywhere, although above the upper lip is usually a common target.

Herbal Remedy – Saw Palmetto (also known as Serenoa repens or windmill palm) is used for treating men with enlarged prostates as well as for women who are experiencing abnormal hair growth during menopause.

Menopause is a difficult time for every woman, but every woman must face it at some point. Approaching menopause with a positive attitude has been proven to reduce the likeliness of some menopausal symptoms like depression and anxiety. Researching remedies and treatments is the best way to prepare for this stage of your life. This way, when it does happen, you’re aware of what to expect and the best ways to deal with it.

Ladies Wigs – The Real, The Replacement and The Ridiculous

Wigs come in different shapes, sizes and colours. They also differ in terms of the materials they are made with. And depending on how you want to use them, they are a lot of wigs readily available in the market. With all of them, there is a sure guarantee that you would definitely be able to find a suitable one for your needs.

There is a wide classification for ladies wigs. There is human hair, synthetic hair, monofilament and wigs made for people suffering from a medical condition.

Human hair wigs are made from, yes you guessed it, actual human hair. Although they are really lifelike and are very convincing, they also tend to be the most expensive when in terms of price and maintenance. Human hair are pricy, they come from other people and is very delicate and hard to make. Manufactures tend to exercise extreme care and caution not to damage the hair during processing. The fun doesn’t stop there though; human hair also need a lot of attention. You have to follow strict guidelines in maintaining them in order to have them last for a very long time. Or otherwise, hair would weather away.

Can’t afford human hair wigs? You can also try out synthetic hair wigs. These aren’t that expensive compared to human hair. And on top of that, they also don’t require much maintenance, as most synthetic hair are made with high quality durable materials fit for rough use. Additionally, if you are looking for outrageous hair styles with a colourful look, synthetic hair is right for you. Rather than styling your hair the way you want, which would require you to use a lot of products, synthetic hair would be a good choice. These wigs come in different sizes and colours, or if you want, you can talk to a manufacturer and describe to them your out-of-the-ordinary idea, with regards to wigs of course.

Lastly, monofilament wigs, they are described as one of the best functional you can hope for. The hairs are tied to a monofilament and that the wig itself allows your scalp to show through. Because of this, the wig is breathable and gentle of the scalp. Which is a plus for people who have very sensitive scalps. Complete monofilament wigs are also known as 100% hand-tied wigs. As the name goes, they are woven strand-by-strand manually. Although, they come a bit pricey, because of their nature, these are the ultimate heavy weights in the industry, when talking about the balance of fashion style, functionality, comfort and trend. In addition, monofilament wigs are composed of thin breathable polyester or nylon that blends with the colour of your scalp. This means that it can hardly be noticed by other people. Which is another plus if you don’t want other people to know that you are wearing one.

In conclusion, ladies wigs are more common that what you think. Nowadays there are already a lot of manufacturers that make the different kinds of it. This is so that people with special requirements or has a preference on wigs can be able to get what they want. Wigs are also fun to wear, they can improve how you look and boost your overall image. But functionality wise, there are different kinds for you to choose from. All you need to do is list down your requirement and browse through catalogues to see if what you are looking for is readily available. If not, you can also talk to manufacturers to advice you or even have one especially made for you.

Home Sweet Treadmill

For those of you trying to stay in shape or shed a few pounds (who isn’t?) there are tons of resources. Perhaps you think there’s nothing better than outdoor sports to burn up the calories as you feel those wonderful endorphins kicking in.

But what if it’s winter and you’re snowbound? What if you live, as I do, in the Southeast, where it seems that it’s either too hot and humid for outdoor exertion, or it’s pouring rain.

Your next best alternative may be an indoor regimen. Gyms, however, are expensive, and crowded – and, annoyingly for those of us who are well past our prime, full of 18 year olds in Spandex that make us feel like the Pillsbury Doughboy in sweats.

So, it’s home gym time. Yes, stationary bikes are the cheapest, but have you ever sat on one of those seats for any length of time? Ouch!

My favorite indoor equipment is a home treadmill. It burns up more calories than a stationary bike, is more comfortable, and doesn’t tear up my arthritic old knees like a stair stepper. Best of all, I can turn it on, climb aboard and watch TV all at the same time. My exercise time just flies by. Then I fold it up, stuff it under the couch. Try doing that with a Bow Flex!

Your home treadmill can be manual or electric, and come in a variety of different styles and options for workout speed, regulation and incline. You can walk on a flat surface at an easy three miles per hour or race rapidly up a hill. It’s all up to you. Treadmills are easy to operate and offer a workout that quickly adapts to your desired pace and exertion level.

Those that fall in the $1000+ category usually offer two to three hp motors, and several incline options. They can rev up your own motor to running speeds of up to eight to ten miles per hour. Many are easily portable, folding away for under-bed or closet storage.

A higher end treadmill might offer an LCD display that lets you see your calories burned, your speed and time elapsed. What’s really nifty about these $1200-$2000 models is that if you get really bored you can choose from one of their myriad computerized programs, which give you workout variety and a little spontaneity as well. A few even offer a chest sensor, a great option to prevent you from overdoing.

Top-end workout wizard models typically come with a warranty for motor, parts and labor. Handy features often included are 12 mph top speeds, many more workout programs, calorie counter and heart rate monitor, two cooling fans, personal profile centers, impact absorption and even carbohydrate counters.

For the budget conscious there are plenty of good manual treadmills out there at bargain basement prices. For a few hundred dollars you can still get a fast-paced workout. You can spend as little as $200 for three incline choices and a top speed of five miles per hour. Of course, there are also plenty of folks who made the purchase and are now just letting their home treadmill gather dust.

Sports Physiotherapy – A Unique, Challenging and Exciting Career Option

In the past, there was a time when the role of sports physiotherapists was to just fetch water to the ground with a sponge to give an injured player some relief. Those days are gone now. Sports physiotherapists these days do way more than just bring a bucket of water and a sponge. They are now well-tuned athletes who must keep up their physical fitness just like sportsmen and women. They need to take very good care of their body and make sure that all the players are in their best health throughout the year.

Any sport involves injuries. But some injuries do not surface as soon as they occur. They often surface when the player least expects them. And then, it is just a series of treatments and medications. To prevent these from happening, physiotherapy is very useful. Sports clubs spend a lot of money each year on physiotherapy and rehabilitation of athletes. They hire the best physiotherapists in the industry to make sure that the players are always fit and healthy.

Sports physiotherapists ensure fast recovery and make the sportspeople ready to get a victory. Sports physiotherapists have to travel wherever the sportspeople go. They travel a lot, see the world and work with people who are excellent in their field.

Obviously, the job of a sports physiotherapist is always in demand. The job profile involves examining and diagnosing injuries, planning the treatment modules, offering advice to the sportspeople on how to attune their lifestyle and exercise regimes to recover quickly and get back to their normal life. They have to administer treatments like manipulation, electro-therapy, hydrotherapy and heat treatment.

If a professional sports team hires a physiotherapist, he/she has to work with the coach (es) and other members who provide medical care and health advice on the right course of action for recovery. This situation is even more probable if the physiotherapist gets a job in a team where one or more players have very, very high reputation.

Entering this profession is not easy. It throws many challenges at you and involves a lot of hard work. After you get a degree in Physiotherapy, you should pursue further studies and specialize in treating sports injuries.

You will need to use your sports-specific knowledge to heal chronic, acute and other injuries. Your services will be available to athletes of all ages. It will help your career if you take part in some voluntary work. You will not get any payment but you will be able to add it to your CV. It will also show that you can take initiative and you have the drive to pursue your career and work with some of the best clubs in your country. If you can successfully secure a job as a sports physiotherapist, you actually have innumerable options.

First, you need to enroll in a reputable sports physiotherapy center where you can receive training and benefit from hands-on practice. There are some gym programs too that you have to enroll in so that you can get the ideal physical fitness to treat athletes throughout the year.

Adventures in Mommy Land: Pregnancy

Motherhood is an interesting journey. I think that is something that every mother could agree on. It is full of ups and downs. Often motherhood is just plain funny even if it may not seem so at the time. It all begins with that BFP on a pregnancy test. At that point there are many emotions and thoughts that could be running through your mind. You may be happy, relieved, excited, sad, confused, and scared. You may have been trying for a month or for 5 years or this pregnancy may have been an accident. One thing is for sure, you either just stuck a stick in your pee and had some splash back at your hand or you tried to catch it in a cup and had some splash back and or spill out on your hand so that you could stick an HPT in it and wait for those two lines.

Yes motherhood begins by peeing on yourself. It may not be the last time it happens either. Between jabs and kicks to the bladder and just having a 5-10lb weight sitting on your bladder doesn’t exactly make it easy to hold it all in. Aside from peeing on yourself there are many more great moments in mommy-hood. There is that first trimester period where you look like you have a beer gut for two months and no one thinks you’re pregnant. They just assume you’ve gained a little so they try to avoid saying anything even as you glow with pride and try to stick it out further. Pregnancy: the only time in a girl’s life where she is so excited to show off her belly pooch!

If you’re one of the lucky ones the first trimester will also bring projectile vomiting. I never really understood why they called it morning sickness. It can hit at night, in the afternoon, in church, on a romantic date, and even in the middle of your first trimester trans-vaginal ultrasound. But once again, as you look awful and people ask in a very concerned voice “are you ok?” because you look like you are about to die, you beam and say “I’m pregnant!” with a huge smile as if excited to be puking because it lets you know that you are indeed pregnant. Yes it’s a wonderful time. I think that is the beauty of pregnancy. Any other time in your life the above situations would be horrible but when you know that they are just one step on this great journey of motherhood they are totally bearable.

I was lucky. I had two great pregnancies. I do think that pregnancy is at least in part, what you make of it. Your outlook is a huge contributor to how your pregnancy goes. I am sure that there are people who would argue with me on that and maybe they are right. I do not know. I just have to speak from my experience and the experiences of those around me. While I believe that I had a perfect and easy pregnancy both times and feel blessed that I did, that does not mean that they were without the usual pregnancy symptoms and complications. With my daughter I threw up nonstop, night and day, for two months. With my son I was just generally queezy for my entire pregnancy but I never threw up. In the third trimester of both my pregnancies my tail bone was so sore that moving from a seated position to standing was excruciating. Still I could not have been happier. I felt great! I was so excited both times. I was especially excited about my new boobs! They were huge! I was a C cup to start so they quickly reached a DD by the beginning of my third trimester both times. My husband loved them too. I looked great! Well they would have looked better if my belly didn’t stick out even further than they did but I’ll take what I can get.

I mentioned that I thought my outlook contributed greatly to my pregnancy mood. I do believe that is true and I truly credit it to one thing: Hypnobabies. I did not just wake up every day and decide I would be positive. I think that would have been harder some days. Instead I listened to my Hypnobabies pregnancy Affirmations track every day. I heard and said things like “I love my pregnant body” “I am beautiful” “I feel great” “I handle any challenge with ease” and other things like that. Hearing and saying them so often made me believe them. It was so ingrained in me that it became my reality.

Hypnobabies as well as the book “Painless Childbirth” by Giuditta Tornetta made the biggest difference in my pregnancies especially my last one. I am a big supporter of hypnosis and meditation during pregnancy and beyond. Even now I have the Hypnobabies “After your baby comes” track which I call the “you’re a good mommy” track. I think that it really makes a difference. So no matter what your pregnancy journey looks like. Take comfort that you are not alone in the hilarity, the struggles, and the great joy. Try to take a step back and relax when you feel overwhelmed and reach out to other pregnant women or moms who have been there. I strongly suggest using a pregnancy hypnosis or meditation regimen. Hypnobabies is also a complete childbirth education course that is designed to help women achieve a pain-free natural birth. It helped me do it and I highly recommend it! Whatever your path is though, make sure that you keep your chin up, seek help when you need it, and take time to relax EVERY DAY! Happy Pregnancy, Happy Birth!

Products Enjoying Maximum Popularity Among Buyers at Online Medical Supply Stores

Online medical supply stores have become extremely popular these days. The buyers’ list of these web shops includes caregivers, doctors, nurses, and health conscious people. In this article, we will be discussing about products that are purchased most frequently from these online shops.

Digital thermometer: Digital thermometers are used for taking an individual’s oral temperature. They are basically petite handheld units boasting a miniature window for showing your oral temperature in numbers. People nowadays prefer using digital thermometers instead of the traditional ones as reading temperature accurately on the traditional models were quite difficult. In addition, unlike the traditional thermometers, their digital counterparts can measure an individual’s oral temperature with seconds.

The main reason why digital thermometers are sold so frequently is that almost every single person needs to have one in their home for detecting fever. In addition, this equipment is also used at hospitals and doctors’ clinics.

IV stand: Although IV stands are not sold very frequently to common people, they are among the most widely sold medical supplies online. They are primarily purchased by hospitals, clinics, and care-giving facilities. The types of IV stand these organizations purchase include models meant for intensive care or ICU, models meant for operation theaters, models meant for urology department, and models meant for pediatric use.

There are some patients who cannot be admitted to a care-giving facility or a hospital. For them, some companies make IV stands meant for home care. There are also companies that make foldable IV stands.

Backrest: Backrests are most commonly purchased for household use. The majority of the care giving facilities also keeps on buying these products. The online medical supply stores usually sell two different types of backrests; they are: units meant for beds and units meant for chairs. Some shops also have impressive collections of back rests designed for car seats. In addition, you can categorize them even based on the kind of material they are made of.

You should pick the backrest design depending on the kind of back problem you have. Ideally, you should speak to your doctor before placing an order.

Cervical collar: Cervical collars, which are also often referred to as neck braces, are medical devices used for supporting our neck. These collars are primarily worn by individuals suffering from cervical spondylosis, a condition that affects the joints of our neck. Emergency personnel, however, are often found to use cervical collars even for people experiencing traumatic neck or head injuries.

Walker: Walkers are tools meant for allowing elderly or disabled people to move around without others’ support. These tools helps people in maintaining body balance while walking. They are available in different designs, shapes and sizes; your doctor is the best person to tell you which walker model will suit you best.

Lose All Your Stubborn Belly Fat

Lose ALL Your Stubborn Belly Fat (3 Steps) – See Fat Loss Results in Just 1 Week

So you want to know how to lose all your stubborn belly fat, also known as a gut, a beer belly, a spare tire, a breadbasket, and depending on how much belly fat you’re carrying you may have a full-out tank. The good news is regardless what category you fall into if you have stubborn belly fat this post is going to help you solve this problem step by step once and for all.

There are three ways that we could do to lose all your stubborn belly fat and that’s through weight training, cardiovascular training and nutrition. That’s it there’s no way to target fat burn, there’s no special exercises to lose all your stubborn belly fat. Let’s start first with weight training. Weight training is extremely important believe it or not to burn stubborn fat. You see everyone’s body has a basal metabolic rate and contrary to popular belief you can drink all the water you want, eat six-seven meals a day, and drink coffee, and eat spicy food, however the only thing that is actually linked to a significant increase in your metabolism is an increase in lean body mass. Meaning if we can build more muscle we can eat more food and still burn more fat. A lot of people just get stuck in always trying to cut down. You cut back on calories and then when you plateau you cut back further add some more cardio. Let me tell you something from experience when we get clients that have very little muscle mass it becomes exponentially more difficult to make them lose weight. As everyone else is losing 3, 4 pounds a week they’re losing one every other week. This is a hugely overlook factor especially by women. Remember, even though your ultimate goal is to burn fat your goal with weight training has to be to build muscle because that’s ultimately going to be the thing that helps you burn fat the most.

Now what’s the best way to build muscle with weight training and lose all your stubborn belly fat? If you are natural like most of the people that watch this channel then you absolutely must strive to lift heavier and heavier weights. Unless you’re somebody that enjoys doing hundreds of reps of cal-aesthetics upping the weights is the best way to ensure that you progressively overload your muscles. Training heavy also helps increase a natural lifters ability to synthesize protein which is again super important for building muscle and building up your metabolism. Now there’s been a lot of people that have made the claim that working your sets until failure is a bad idea and doesn’t pay off. This is wrong. Yes maximal muscle fiber recruitment is necessary to stimulate protein synthesis. And yes you can achieve maximal muscle fiber recruitment with a heavy load and with a light load. However, the problem is that most people that use light weights stop before ever achieving maximal muscle fiber recruitment. That’s why training to failure especially when you’re not in a lab being studied is a far better idea for building muscle. When you fail you can be almost certain that you achieved maximal muscle fiber recruitment and in turn you’ll have an increase in muscle protein synthesis. The bottom line is make sure that you’re going heavy with your weights at least 3 days a week and if you want more information on sets and reps I’ll include a link at the end for a video I made earlier that dives deep into structuring and setting up your weight training program.

Let’s talk about element number two which is cardio and how it can help you lose all your stubborn belly fat. You don’t want to do just any regular kind of cardio. Especially when a lot of people that have stubborn belly fat need to be working on building muscle. Doing a lot of long duration cardio like jogging for miles is not gonna help you build muscle and it’s truly not the most effective way to burn fat. The best type of cardio that you can do for fat loss is interval training. There are tons of different forms of interval training but I’m just going to give you one very simple approach for your cardio workouts. You sprint for 60 seconds and then you walk for 60 seconds. If you’re a little more advanced you can Sprint for 60 seconds and then jog for 60 seconds. The cool thing is as opposed to long duration cardio you’re going to be done with this work out in just 20 minutes. Now keep in mind to do this correctly and to experience the fat burning effects when you sprint you have to sprint. Whenever you’re doing interval training, when you’re doing the “work” interval you almost always want a maximum effort. By doing this type of interval training this is going to invoke the after burn effect which is just a fancy way of saying that your body is gonna burn a whole heck of a lot more calories in the recovery process then it would with long duration steady state cardio. With cardio I wouldn’t do more than two days a week at first to start. It’s a good idea to save cardio days to add in as you hit plateaus. This way you don’t have to always cut calories to burn more fat.

Speaking of calories let’s talk about nutrition. With nutrition if you want to lose all your stubborn belly fat you will undoubtedly have to maintain a calorie deficit and keep your insulin levels low. I recommend starting with a 25% reduction from maintenance calories and staying within that range consistently on a daily basis. Even though nobody wants to track their macros and their calories it’s a really good idea to do this especially in the beginning. Once you learn about how many calories and macros are coming from different food items then you can do it more so off the top of your head. There are plenty of apps out there like MyFitnessPal that’ll help you track your macros until you’re ready to do it on your own. Other than that you want to stay away from food that’s going to spike your insulin because when your insulin levels are high you’re not going to be burning fat. Not only can carbohydrates spike your insulin levels but protein can also spike your insulin levels fairly easily especially whey and casein which is found in most dairy products that aren’t fermented. So for the most part I would stay away from dairy and try to consistently maintain that calorie deficit. As long as you can be consistent you will hundred percent lose that stubborn belly fat. The biggest problem for people becomes consistently staying away from food that will spike your insulin levels or break you out of that 25 percent reduction. So one of my best diet tips to this day is to never deny yourself what you’re craving. Recognize that your minds hunger and your body’s hunger are two different things. However, the cause of your mind’s hunger is many times only due to the fact that your body is actually physically hungry. So if you crave let’s say a little bit of ice cream you shouldn’t just lose yourself and go eat ice cream. We call that a binge in the fitness world and that’s a big problem. The way you handle this is by promising yourself that you’re going to allow yourself to eat as much ice cream as you want but only after you have a very full high protein healthy fat high vegetable meal. I bet most of the time you’re not even going to want what you were craving and if you still do you’re going to eat way less of it, you’re not gonna spike your insulin levels, you won’t exceed your calorie deficit and you’ll burn that stubborn fat as a result of that process. It’s a lot easier on your willpower then just sitting there resisting all your temptations. That’s it guys I really hope this post has helped you out. Can Vitamin E Cure Almost Everything?

Vitamin E is an absolutely vital nutrient in your body, but it probably can’t do half the things you heard it can.

What does vitamin E do? To begin, it is an antioxidant. It tames dangerous free radicals and helps prevent blood clots and blockages in coronary arteries. Research points to its ability to reduce the risk of chronic diseases, such as heart attacks and some cancers.

Vitamin E is also believed to slow the aging process and to help nerve conduction. Most importantly, it works to enhance and even protect vitamin C and Vitamin A.

There is also promising research that vitamin E might help prevent or slow the onset of cataracts in the eyes.

Vitamin E has been touted as a cure for just about everything but a broken heart. I am sure that’s coming, though. Here are just a few of the diseases and conditions vitamin E has been credited with curing or preventing:

  • Parkinson’s disease
  • Infertility in both men and women
  • Alzheimer’s disease
  • Hepatitis
  • eye tissue inflammation
  • fibromylagia
  • hair loss
  • PMS (pre-menstrual syndrome)
  • heavy menstruation
  • healing wounds
  • diabetes
  • atherosclerosis
  • menopause
  • osteoarthritis
  • even restless leg syndrome!

It might well prove that vitamin is helpful in some of these and other conditions, but probably not in many or even most of them.

As with many vitamins, there is a raging debate over how much vitamin E you need. The US recommended daily allowance (RDA) is 8-10 milligrams per day. But most people in the nutrition field believe that to capture the long-term benefits, people need 10 to 20 times that quantity, which is well short of the maximum recommended 1,000 milligrams.

Vitamin E is found in many foods in small quantities. The good news is that almost everyone gets sufficient vitamin E to avoid a deficiency, with a few exceptions noted below. The bad news is that most people do not get the RDA. This is definitely a vitamin that should be supplemented.

Be careful about what supplements you choose, since the synthetic version of vitamin E is not even half effective as in its natural form. Look for nutritional supplements containing natural vitamin E, preferably in liquid form.

People on low fat diets need supplements the most, since fats and oils are the largest sources of vitamin E. Nuts and green, leafy vegetables are also good sources, as are egg yolks and liver. So are whole grains.

Vitamin E probably will never cure your broken heart, nor live up to half of the claims people make about it. But it is an important vitamin for maintaining good health and it is needed in quantities above what most people take in their diet.

Your Simplified Guide to Natural Skincare

Our skin absorbs many things including chemicals. Considering the number of makeup and skincare products we use every day, it’s easy to understand the amount of chemicals that go in our pores. Over the years, regulatory bodies have approved the use of certain chemicals and parabens, at least in small quantities. However, researchers, skin experts, and dermatologists believe that there’s no substitute to natural skincare.

Understanding natural skincare

Natural skincare is all about using the most natural ingredients. This can be further divided into herbal, natural and organic segments. Now, every manufacturer has a unique way of developing products, and in many cases, the process is kept safe, like a well-guarded secret. Even the regulatory authorities don’t have a big say in this, barring giving a list of do’s and don’ts. So, what can you expect from natural skincare?

1. First things first, these products don’t have any form of chemical or preservatives that are harmful to the skin.

2. These are formulated with 100% natural products and ingredients. Please note that natural and organic does not always mean the same thing. We will discuss this in a bit.

3. Thirdly, the products are formulated in a particular country, as mentioned.

4. Also, a number of companies don’t use animal testing for natural products, which is a big plus.

How to choose natural products for the skin?

You would be happy to know that natural products are available in both skincare and makeup. However, the primary task is to find the right brand. Whether you are looking for a special homemade face mask or a massage cream, you need to check a few basics.

— Start with the label. A good manufacturer will ensure 100% transparency on their product label. You will find all the relevant details on the product packet or the sticker.

— Check the ingredients. This is equally important. You need to check if all the ingredients are natural and mentioned as required. Do not buy products that just mention the ‘Key Ingredients”.

— Check the brand. Is the brand reputable? Are they certified by any of the regulatory bodies or independent labs? If yes, you can definitely trust the company for their products.

— Natural or organic? By organic, it means that the ingredients are made without any additional fertilizers and chemicals. So yes, organic products are always better than just natural products. Check if the products are certified to be organic.

— Is the product formulated for sensitive skin? Most of the natural skin and makeup products are considered to be good for sensitive skin, but that’s an aspect you need to check.

Lastly, you need to check reviews. There are bloggers and other websites that review natural skincare products, and you can find a lot of amazing facts and details. Also, the first-hand experience from other users is always useful in comparing options. Not to forget, check the price. Since such products don’t have a lot of preservatives and chemicals, the costs are higher but are worth paying. Check online now and start shopping for your stash!

10 Tips for Responsible Medication Use

All medications, which include prescriptions, over-the-counter preparations, vitamin and mineral supplements, and herbal preparations, are potentially dangerous. Following some simple rules will not only reduce your chance of having a problem, but should reduce your cost as well.

  1. Always shop around for medications – there is a significant difference in cost from pharmacy to pharmacy. Check both online and offline sources. For example, several of my patients have realized a significant cost savings by using the Costco pharmacy as well as online Canadian pharmacies. Should you choose to use a Canadian pharmacy, please keep abreast of any laws that may affect your purchase.
  2. Always check to see if a generic equivalent is available. Today, there are very few medications on the market where generics are not acceptable.
  3. If you can, have your prescription filled for 90 days. It will cost less than if you bough 30 days worth over 3 months. One of the reasons is that pharmacies charge a filling fee for each prescription filled.
  4. Will you medication allow you to take a half-tab? For example, if you are taking lisinopril 20mg, you can purchase 40mg tablets and break them in half – a savings of 50%. Always check with your health care provider and/or pharmacist first…not all medications can be broken. Also, consider those nifty little pill cutters…they work wonderfully.
  5. Do you really have to take all that medication in the first place? The best advice I can give you is to put everything into a bag and take it with you to your appointment. Make sure that you and your provider are on the same page when it comes to medications/supplements that you are taking. This is especially true when you are seeing more than one prescribing provider. You may have duplicates that you are unaware of. Always ask…”do I really need this”?
  6. Keep an up-to-date list of your medications with you at all times.
  7. It is your responsibility to learn the names of your medications and why you are taking them! Most likely, your provider does not know what you mean by the “little pink pill” or the “white capsule”. There are literally dozens of each.
  8. Check your medications before you leave the pharmacy. If something does not look right, ask about it right then. DO NOT take something you are unfamiliar with.
  9. Follow label directions. If you are taking something for osteoporosis, chances are you were told to take it with a full glass of water, sitting upright while avoiding any other food or fluids for 30 minutes. They were not making it up! This goes for the labels on over-the-counter preparations. This is one time that “if a little is good, a lot must be better” can be a dangerous thought.
  10. Another very important tip. If at all possible, it is in your best interest to have a primary care provider. Ideally, he or she will coordinate your care with specialists, and keep track of all the medications you are on. If you have a complete profile on record, then between your one primary provider, and your one pharmacist, any problems in your medications should be picked up.
